Who was Eric Harris?

Eric was born on April 9, 1981 in Wichita, Kansas. Eric’s father, Wayne Harris held 11 different positions at six different bases in Ohio, Michigan and Plattsburgh, New York. Due to an unexpected base closure, Wayne retired. Eric’s mother Kathy was a stay at home mom to both Eric and his older brother Kevin. The family moved to Littleton CO in July 1993. Eric took the move from Plattsburgh to Colorado pretty hard. Moving once again would mean starting over and making new friends all over again. Although he lost touch with quite a few friends in both Michigan and New York, he did remain in contact with a few of them. People described him as a very nice kid. The Harris family moved into a rental house for a couple of years after moving to Littleton. Wayne took a job as a Flight Safety Services Corporation in Englewood and Kathy got a job as a caterer. Eric went to Ken Caryl middle school for 7th and 8th grade. This is where he met the person who would become his best friend, Dylan Klebold. Eric entered his freshman year at Columbine in 1995. In 1996, the family purchased a house in a neighborhood south of Columbine. Eric met Brooks Brown because he lived in the same neighborhood and they rode the bus to school together. He met Nate Dykeman in Spanish class, and then introduced Nate to Dylan. The group became good friends. Also during freshman year, Eric met Tiffany Typher in German class and took her to the home coming dance. It was their only date and when she refused to go out with him again, Eric staged a fake 'suicide', sprawling on the ground with fake blood splashed all over him. Eric got a part time job at Blackjack pizza as a cook but later on was offered and accepted an assistant manager position. His best friend Dylan also got a job at Blackjack. This is also where they met co-worker Mark Manes who later introduced them to Phil Duran.  At the end of January 1998, during their junior year at Columbine, Eric and Dylan were arrested for breaking into a van and entered into the juvenile diversion program (which he would complete early due to completing all the requirements and “good behavior”). During this time, he was required to attend several classes including anger management, pay several court related fees, and complete 45 hours or community service. Eric worked for a short time at Tortilla Wraps with Nate Dykeman. He stated to his diversion officer that he wanted to save up money for a new computer. Some of this money was used to purchase the guns in which Eric and Dylan used at Columbine. Three of the guns were purchased at the Tanner Gun Show in Denver. Eric and Dylan convinced a friend, Robyn Anderson to go with them and purchase these firearms. The other gun purchased was from Phil Duran. While keeping up on school work, working part time, and competing the diversion program, Eric still managed to find time maintain several web pages as well as create several Doom maps. He also posted music lyrics on his web pages such as  his favorite bands like KMFDM and Rammstein. On various web pages, Eric would rant about how he hated people and wanted to kill people like Brooks Brown. Dylan tipped off Brooks about the web page threats. The Brown’s reported these threats Eric made to the police. No follow up by the police was ever completed for this. One of the classes that Eric took in school was video production. (Only a few videos were made public). During the course of taking the class, Eric and Dylan would use one of the school’s video cameras to record “their plans known as NBK” as well as what is known as Rampart Range. A couple of tapes known as the “basement tapes” were only viewed by a few people. On these tapes showed their arsenal of weapons and bomb making materials that Eric had hidden in his room, crawl space, and window well. Also on these tapes, they listed off people they hated and gave a little reason for their actions. Although Eric tried to distance himself from his emotions and any kind of remorse, he stated in a video clip how much he loved his parents and his family. He also filmed himself recalling memories of friends; turning off the camera as he began to cry. Eric considered himself a master of deceit and kept everything somewhat hidden up to the event that occurred on the day of April 20th, 1999.
